The only way that I know of to do it accurately is to have the drum standing upright on it's bottom. If you measure the height of the drum in inches and divide 55 by the heigh t it will tell you how many gallons are in it.. For instance: If the drum measures 36 inches high then you know that each inch is equal to 1.527 gallons. 55 divided by 36 equals 1.53.
